Taverna Laopetra, Benitses
Approaching the village of Benitses by coming from Corfu town, you will meet the first beach of Benitses with its shallow and clear waters. However, what catches the eye in this beach is not only its beautiful waters, but an imposing stone that almost "floats" above the water standing on a stone base, called Laopetra (in greek means the stone of the people).
It is a natural attraction of the area that has featured in many photographs and has been the inspiration for many paintings.
The name of the traditional Taverna Laopetra was inspired by the trademark of the area, as it has something in common with this namesake stone : it is a meeting point for every family and company of the village, while at the same time it is an attraction for the visitors of Benitses who love Greek traditional food, just like the Laopetra stone of the beach, where some years ago it was a summer spot for the residents and visitors of the village.
Taverna Laopetra was first opened in 2009 by the Litsardopoulos family and quickly became loved by the people for its good cuisine, having gained regular customers, both locals and visitors of the island from all over the world.
The year 2020 was a milestone in the evolution of Taverna Laopetra, as two new members joined the family circle: Spyros Kolovos and his wife, Manto Ladovrechi. The young couple, with a dream to promote Greek traditional cuisine in their own way, fueled the family business with fresh ideas, gastronomic visions and ambitions, skyrocketing its success.
Since then, the two families, having combined their knowledge and years of experience in the culinary field, have managed to make Taverna Laopetra a gastronomic paradise that everyone worth to visit in order to feel the real meaning of Greek taste and hospitality.
